Dentures

Dentures (False Teeth) are a prosthetic replacement for your natural teeth, and are an option for patients who are missing some or all of their teeth. There are different types of denture materials but the main ones are Acrylic Dentures (plastic) and Chrome Dentures (metal plate) which will be used depending on the individual patient case. Our goal is the ensure that the dentures fit securely and comfortably in your mouth, so that you are able to continue to eat, speak and chew as you did previously with your own natural teeth.

In recent years, newer materials and technology have resulted in great improvements in modern dentures. Our dentists can create dentures that fit comfortably, appear natural and help you stay healthier. Denture problems can still occur like clicking, slipping or gum irritation if your dentures don’t fit well, but increasingly less of these problems are presenting from our patients.

Steps To Getting Your Dentures

– Your dentist will take impressions of your mouth and send them to the lab, along with a detailed prescription, and a dental technician will then make your dentures.

– Once the denture is made, you will have a trial fitting. During this ‘try-in’ your dentist will set up your new denture and try it in your mouth, so you can see how it looks and feels. At the same time your dentist will make sure that it fits and functions correctly.

– If the try-in goes well, you will receive the completed denture at the next visit along with instructions on how to eat and speak with dentures. You will also learn about how to take care of your dentures, your mouth and your gums.

– Your dentist will schedule a recall appointment over the following 3 – 6 months, to ensure your denture is working correctly and that you are completely happy with it. At this point any final adjustments or changes will be made to ensure you are 100% happy with your new denture.
